Development & Communications Internship Opening

Job Title: Development & Communications Intern

Immediate Supervisor: Development Coordinator

Salary: Unpaid

Hours: 15+hrs/week, Monday through Friday.

Hours are generally flexible, but intern will be expected to adhere to a fixed schedule and make a 8 month- 1 year commitment to working with Thrive DC.

Internship Responsibilities Include:
• Assist with writing and production of organizational newsletters and solicitations
•Assist staff with coordination of fundraising events
•Help write, proofread, edit, and execute production of grant materials and foundation proposals and reports
•Lead social networking efforts

•Research prospective donors (individual, institutional and governmental)
•Help develop and maintain the Thrive DC web pages
•Manage timely donor acknowledgment; editing and customizing thank-you letters
•Take on development special projects and research assignments.
•Maintain up-to-date database of supporters, volunteers, and donors
•Perform database queries and generate spreadsheets tracking progress on development goals
•Assist with other work on an as-needed basis

Qualifications (required):

High School degree/GED; 1 or more (cumulative) years of related office or nonprofit experience. Positive interpersonal skills; strong work ethic, independent motivation, and ability to work as part of a team; enthusiasm, sense of humor, creativity, flexibility, and patience. Strong communication, and writing skills; detail-oriented with good organizational skills a must. Ability to set priorities, exercise good judgment, manage important relationships, and be timely and accurate. Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, etc.).

Additional skills and experience (highly desirable): Bachelor’s degree; experience with proofreading and editing. Fluency in Spanish. Familiarity with database management; event planning, and/or graphic design, website design experience a plus. Demonstrated interest in the not-for-profit sector and strong interest in development, social justice, and Thrive DC’s mission.
